01482 300300: Is This Hull City Council Calling?
01482 300300 is the main telephone number for Hull City Council. The council publishes it as the number to call for general enquiries about its services, so a call or missed call from this number is most likely to be the council or one of its departments.
Why might Hull City Council call me?
The council deals with a wide range of services, so there are lots of everyday reasons for a call, for example:
- Council Tax, Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support
- council housing, repairs or a housing application
- bins, recycling and waste collections
- schools, admissions and children’s services
- adult social care
- an enquiry or complaint you’ve made
If you weren’t expecting a call, it’s worth thinking about whether you’ve recently been in touch with any of these services.
Out-of-hours: 01482 300304
Hull City Council’s Emergency Duty Team uses 01482 300304. This team handles urgent social care matters outside normal office hours.
Could it be a scam?
Scammers sometimes “spoof” trusted numbers so their call appears to come from an organisation you know. Be cautious if the caller:
- asks for your bank card details, PIN or online banking passwords;
- says you’re owed a Council Tax refund and needs your card number to pay it;
- threatens immediate action, bailiffs or arrest unless you pay straight away;
- asks you to pay by gift card, cryptocurrency or a transfer to an unfamiliar account.
If you’re unsure, hang up and call the council back yourself on 01482 300300, using a different phone if you can, or wait a few minutes before calling so the line has cleared.
What to do if you think it was fake
- Report it to Report Fraud (formerly Action Fraud) online or on 0300 123 2040.
- If you gave out bank details, call your bank straight away using 159 or the number on the back of your card.
- Let us know so we can warn other Hull residents.
