01482 602555: Is KCOM Calling You?
01482 602555 is KCOM’s customer services number. KCOM is Hull’s own telephone and broadband company – the reason the city has its famous cream phone boxes – and it lists this number on its website for customer enquiries and complaints.
Why might KCOM call me?
- about your broadband, phone line or bill;
- to arrange an engineer visit or installation;
- about the move from old copper landlines to digital phone lines;
- to follow up a fault or complaint you’ve reported;
- with offers or contract renewals if you’re a customer.
Beware fake “broadband” calls
One of the most common phone scams in the UK is a caller claiming to be from your broadband provider, saying your internet has been “hacked” or will be cut off. Common warning signs:
- they ask you to install software or an app so they can “fix” your computer remotely;
- they ask you to log in to online banking while they’re connected to your device;
- they threaten to disconnect you today unless you pay.
A genuine provider won’t ask for remote access to your computer out of the blue. If you’re unsure, hang up and call KCOM back on 01482 602555.
If you think you’ve been scammed
- Disconnect your computer from the internet and uninstall any software the caller asked you to add.
- Call your bank on 159 if you shared financial details or logged in to banking.
- Report it to Report Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
